Project: Improve the relationship between the Duero river and the city of Soria
Location: Soria, Spain
Area: 360 ha
Date: June 2007
Team: Modo
Result: First Prize

Concept:
The purpose of the proposal is to improve the relationship between the Duero river and the city of Soria by means of small interventions stitching together both banks and enhancing the latent potential of the area. These interventions intend to revitalise tourism in Soria and endow the city with a new space for leisure, sport, culture and the enjoyment of nature.
The project establishes a matrix that can unify different existing elements with new pieces. The established relationships suggest their belonging to a set, but they respect their own identities at the same time.
The intervention consists of different spatially and visually related pieces. These completely dilute the idea of delimited constructions, and the idea that they are objects unrelated to the place they occupy. They are naturally introduced in the environment in response to nearby referents.
The key element to understand the proposal is its construction by phases. The growth sequence is established according to the forcefields that each piece generates. This structure can grow without a crucial morphological transformation thus generating an open composition that regulates its size and shape based on the status of the intervention, and based on the phase it is going through.
